Can you give advice for traveling to Disney this June?

My daughter is in a dance competition and the competition hotel is the Dolphin in Orlando for 5 days 6/30-7/4, but its full so we have the option of staying at the Swan or a hotel in walking distance. I’ve been to Disney twice before but Im not familiar with these hotels. The discounted rate for the Swan is $149/night and airfare is around $500.00 for the 2 of us. I dont have much money due to the economy so am considering driving or maybe paying something each month toward the hotel since its the biggest expense.
Does anyone have any HELPFUL advice please?? My daughter is so excited to go to Nationals with her dance team but Im wincing from the costs. Thanks!
As far as driving, I live in Chicago so its a 20 hr drive and I have driven before but Im concerned about the time I’ll have off from work.

Your best bet would be to stay at the Swan… that is the only option for another hotel that is in that price range and within walking distance. The other resorts in the Swan/Dolphin area will be more than that.

Beach Club = $390+/night

Where do you live and how much do you estimate it will cost you to drive? If you drive you will be able to stop at Wal-Mart or Publix and do some grocery shopping which will significantly help with expenses.

I know money is a factor but school is out during that time and the 4th of July holiday will play a big role in the resorts filling up. It would be best to reserve the room and pay a little every month. The only requirement is that it is paid 45 days prior to check in. And, if they are cutting the price down to $149 you are saving quite a bit compared to the other resorts in the area.
