Best place to get Scripts… Childrens Show… Please read!?
So, my High School Theatre class is putting on a class production of a childrens show. My teacher has done this for years and said the kids love it. It is mainly Pre-Schoolers that come. My question is, where is the best place to get a script that they would be able to somewhat understand. We mainly thinking between Hansel and Gretal and The Beauty and the Beast (Not the Disney version hopefully), Personally I think Aladdin would be fun. They definitely cannot be musicals :/ We are trying to use minimal set and lighting. And hopefully costumes already available to us (although we have a wide selection) So any ideas where I could get these scripts? My teacher said they wont charge us royalties since we dont make any money and its preschoolers. And if they try to then find some where else. So I dont know what to do. Less then an hour running time preferably. THANKS!
You usually do have to pay royalties (legally) even if you aren’t making any money. I guess it depends on if they count pre-schoolers as an audience, because you have to pay royalties for any performance with an audience, paying or not.
www.playscripts.com has a lot of plays for young audiences, I’d look there.
