Disney Fort Wilderness Resort?

In June, my family and I are going to be staying in a cabin at the Fort Wilderness Disney resort in Florida. We’ve stayed in other Disney resorts before (Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Polynesian), but we’ve never stayed there before. Is it nice? I read reviews, and most people said it was great. The few that didn’t complained about the “swamp” and the travel time. I’ve done research, and it doesn’t seem as if the travel time is all that bad. Also, the “rustic-ness” won’t bother us since we spend a lot of time in a little cabin in the forest near our home, and we’re not from a city. We live in a town that’s surrounded by forest. So a little woods won’t bother us. Also, how much room is in the cabins? There will be four of us (me, my parents and my 8 year old sister). Thanks for any answers!

The Cabins are great! We have stayed there twice (15 other times were in our RV). The cabins have a family/living room with a pull down double bed and a TV. There is a full kitchen with utensils, stove, microwave, dishwasher and fridge. There is a full bathroom. Then there is a bedroom with a double bed, a set of bunk beds and another TV. There is an attached porch, picnic table and outside grill. The only two things that are lacking, in my opinion, are closet space and there aren’t any grilling utensils.

Other than that, the internal buses run often. You will see a lot of people on golf carts. They aren’t necessary and they are expensive ($54/night) but they are fun. The cabins can pick up the Orange or Purple bus routes which really helps cutdown on wait times. To get to the Magic Kingdom you will take a ferry from the Settlement. You can also take a ferry to the Wilderness Lodge and the Contemporary. To get to any of the other parks, including Downtown Disney, you will take buses from the Outpost.

There is a lot to do in your “off” time. There are 2 pools, horseback riding, pony rides, a free nightly Disney movie with a campfire, tennis courts, bike rentals, fishing gear rentals, boat/marine rentals and the barn the houses the Disney draft horses. Additionally there are carriage rides, hay rides, an arcade, a Segway tour and the Hoop-De-Doo Musical Review. If you are really ambitious you can take a nature walk to the Wilderness Lodge, which is about 1 mile away.

People are always very friendly at the campground. You will have a wonderful time there. We are going in May, and this will be the first time I have stayed anywhere besides Fort Wilderness. I love it there. You will have a wonderful time!

Make sure you bring bug spray and/or citronella candles if you plan to sit out on the porch.
