People with Disney job experiences!?

Im 16 years old and im thinking about auditioning for a character performer(Yes 16 year olds can do that now)! i have a couple of questions…………

1)How much is the pay? Is it good(For a 16 year old i mean)?
2)Do they provide a place to stay if you dont live in Orlando,FL?
3)How are the auditions?
4)Is it fun and worth it?
Please answer them all, preferably experienced people, and as accurately as possible!!

1) Pay rate depends on the type of character you play and if your in any shows, etc….

2) If you’re looking to go down as a part of the high school career start program or college program, then yes. If you’re just looking to go down to get a job, no.

3) You are first evaluated on your appearance. Height, weight, face shape, etc… they look at you to see what characters you will fit. Princesses mostly have heart shaped faces. Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Chip & Dale all start around the 5’4 height. Goofy & some of the villians are taller. Donald & Daisy I think are around 5’0. After that, you are given a dance routine that you have to copy & preform. This allows them to evaluate you on your ability to move. Finally you are interviewed and they judge your personality.

4)Fun & Worth it? Yes. But know that being a character is tough. It does get hot. Characters with heads like Mickey, Minnie, etc.. get extremely hot very quickly. That is why they are only out for 20 minutes at a time. Then you are usually given a 40 minute break. There is NO air-conditioning inside the head. I had friends who were characters that physically got sick (yes inside the head) from the heat during the summers. It does happen. You will get the annoying kid or screaming kid with the determined “I need that picture” parent. There will be great times, but they’ll be tough ones as well.

Disney is a great experience and it looks good on a resume. It will get people to notice your resume. That may not mean a lot to you right now, but trust me when you get out into the working world after college, you’ll want that resume attention!
