Who has some great advice for Disney World for our trip next week (+ I have some q’s)?
Are all restaurants (fast food, sit down) very spendy & of low quality? I remember about 20 years ago the food was expensive and terrible. I’ve read something about a food plan in a book…. Worth considering?
Rather than keep running off to our car, I thought I’d pack some essentials in a backpack. Is carrying in a backpack a good idea? Can it be taken on rides? If not, is there a secure place to store it while on a ride w/o having to pay for a locker?
When waiting in long lines for rides, are there benches nearby or do people just “stand it out?”
We can only go to 2 theme parks – what do you recommend and why (I have a 9 and 1.5 year old girl/boy)?
Is it a good idea to bring a long sleeve shirt good for the evening or when eating inside restaurants?
Anything else to know?
Disney has some incredible restaurants. We have both quick service which is much like fast food where you walk ot a counter and order and we have many fabulous sit down restaurants. The sit down restaurants are beautifuly themed and the food is incredible. The sit down restaurants can be quite popular and very difficult to get into. If there is a restaurant you would really like to try then you will need to call and make a reservation. Its not like going to the Olive garden. You cant walk up when you want to eat and expect to get in.
The Food in the sit down restaurants can be expensive. The meals in quick service is a couple bucks more then going to a taco bell but you are paying for convience of eating in the park.
If you are staying at Disney Resort you have the option of purchasing a meal plan. They have different levels of meal plans availble with the most popular being the one that included one quick service, one table service and a snack per day. This is so worth it, I would definilty purchase it. I always purchase it anytime I stay on property. It just makes like so easy and allows you to relax and try new things. You will definilty not regret it.
Personally I dont bring backpacks because the parks are huge, its hot and crowded and I dont like to carry stuff. Vast majority of people bring them though. You can bring them on every ride with no problems. So whatever you feel like lugging around go ahead and do it. A lot of people bring water and snacks in those cooler bags. YOu will also see a lot of bags with wheels. Again its really up to you.
Take advantage of fast pass. Its free and easy. Basically at most major attractions like Test Track or Splash Mountain you will see a fast pass distribution area. It will show you the times you can return to the ride with your fast pass and skip the stand by line to hop right on the attraction. Just take all your tickets to the machine and print out a fast pass for Each person riding the attraction. Then come back at the time time on the ticket. They have cast members standing there to answer any questions or problems you may have. Other then that your whole party will have to stand in line. There are no benches inside any of the ride que areas.
I would go to Magic Kingdom because its the orginal and has all the Classic Disney Favorites. It just a fun Family park. Then I would head to Epcot because its such a unique and fun park. There still lots to do with smaller kids but adults will love the it as well. The world showcase is a fun and intresting learning experience for your kids. They will actually meet native people from each of the different countries and can get cool things like thier name written in Jappanese.
Its going to be warm in the evenings outside so your really dont need it. However, my mother often brings a very light sweater because she often gets cold inside air conditioned places like restaurants and movie theatres. I personally live in shorts and t shirts.
If your a northern make sure you wear sunblock. Our sun is intense and you will burn walking around all day.
Bring a small fan with you into the park. We sell squirt bottle/ fans in the park and you will want one unless you already have your own. Its super hot.
Bring a change of clothese for your kids because there are wet play areas in Epcot and a couple water rides where you can get wet.
Bring a poncho to cover your stoller. You will be leaving it outside a lot and if it does rain it will get drenched.
If your carrying food with you. watch out for squirells, Stoller parking is a buffet line for squirells. They will rip open zip lock bags with ease and I have seen them open sipped containers.
Well comfortable well worn in shoes. Do not wear flip flops. You will be walking more then you normaly do so make sure your comfortable and have good foot support.
Lastly, remember your on vacation and try as hard as you might, You will not see and do everything in the park. Relax, Slow down and enjoy. If you need to take a break in the afternoon to cool off. HEad to the hotel pool then come back int he evening after the sun goes down. Trust me you and your kids will enjoy it more if your not hot, sweaty and cranky
