Is 12 frames per second on an animation good?
I make anime animations and I need to know if 12 frames per second is good. I’ve been getting 24 frames per second a alot but whenever I check the frame rate of a .gif of an anime, it comes out as around 12 frames per sec. Others say 24 frames per second is for Disney Movies (anime episodes use less frames per second to save time and money so that episodes are released every week).
I animate 12 frames per second because to me, it’s sufficient. It’s hard enough to animate at 12 fps alone and I want to know if its good. If it’s not good, then I need to start moving on to a higher frame rate, which will kill me.
12 frames per second, with various design choices, are what’s known as limited animation. Hanna Barbara was an early exemplar of it and most of the old Marvel animated shows (Thor, Sub-Mariner, Captain America) definitely used them.
If that’s what you are comfortable with go for it.
