My family and I are going to Disneyland and booked @ Paradise Pier, should I switch Disney Hotel’s?
My kids are 5 and 7. We would all like to know which is the best hotel at Disneyland. How is the pool at Paradise Pier, it looks small? Are we just better off to pay the upgrade and stay at the Grand Californian. What are the locations like for the various hotels. If you have been to Disneyland and stayed at one or more of these hotels please let me know your preference and why. Thanks so much!
I have stayed at all three Disneyland Resort hotels, in fact, I just got back from a trip where I stayed at the Grand Californian. I’ll break down some of the pros and cons of each hotel.
Paradise Pier: You have to walk the farthest to get here but that is the only drawback. I’ve never made it out to the pool but I saw it from a window in the hotel and it looked pretty small compared to the other hotels.
Pros: Cheapest of the three and some rooms offer a great view of California Adventure.
Cons: Farthest hotel distance-wise to Disneyland and basic pool area.
Disneyland Hotel: located right in Downtown Disney, this hotel is a great alternative to the Grand Californian if you want proximity on a budget. It is great staying here because you can either walk into Downtown Disney and hop on the Monorail into Disneyland or walk a short distance to get there. Plus, they are currently remodeling the rooms and I’m sure if you asked you could stay at one of the new rooms. The pool here is a definite plus. There is a cool water slide for kids and the whole area is themed to Peter Pan.
Pros: Excellent location (quick walk to Monorail, Downtown Disney, and Disneyland) and really great pool area.
Cons: A little on the expensive side
Grand Californian: A no doubt excellent hotel. The location is a definite time saver, being able to get into California Adventure without having to wait in lines is great and the short distance from Disneyland to the hotel is great when you are tired of walking. The rooms have great flat screen TVs and DVD players (the other hotels don’t have DVD players unless you pay for a suite, I believe). The pool area is excellent, there are incredibly comfortable lounge chairs surrounding the pool and you can order snacks or drinks to be brought out to you. There is also a really neat water slide for kids.
Pros: Beautiful rooms (compared to the other two), awesome pool area, “private” quick entrance to California Adventure, great proximity to Disneyland and Downtown Disney.
Cons: Very expensive and sometimes it can be a maze to find where your room is.
We used to stay at Paradise Pier every trip because it is the cheapest of the three, we usually stay at the Disneyland Hotel because it is closer. They are both perfectly fine hotels, however, if it is in your budget I would recommend the Grand Californian. Sure it is really expensive but for the money you get excellent service, AWESOME location to both parks including an hotel guest only entrance into California Adventure, a great room and a really great pool area. I think, in the end, you will be happy no matter what hotel you choose. Sorry this is so long, I just wanted to give you lot’s of information! Hope this helped!
