Is it cheaper to fly or drive to Disney World?
I want to plan a trip in early December of 2011 and am trying to plan my budget. It will be just my husband and I. I thought flying might be expensive that time of year. Though I am concerned about gas because our car needs to be filled every 200 miles. We live in Maryland and a flight to Florida would be about 2 1/2 hours I think and I have no idea how long driving would take. What would you suggest?
Using prices now, leaving from Baltimore, the round trip flight would cost about $435 each (It would be cheaper if purchased 21 days or more in advance). Car rental prices for a week are about $425. Then there is food and lodging on top of the $1300 getting there.
The same trip from Baltimore is 920 miles, meaning 8 gas fill ups round trip, plus 2 days travel each way. Add 2 nights lodging and food to that.
Your decision is really if you only have 7 days of vacation, would you really want to spend 4 of them traveling? The prices I have quoted are going to be very high based on a last minute trip. Careful planning could easily save you 100′s of dollars.
