What is going on with Disney and co? Why do they kill off character’s parents?
Occurred to me when I was choosing a movie for the kids that a lot of the disney films bump off the parents. In Bambi, the mom got shot, in Lion King the dad was stampeded over, Snow White, Cinderella, Peter Pan?Jungle Book? Mowgli’s parents aren’t in the picture. Aladdin? A street orphan. Well, you get my drift. I just find it a strange “fixture” with Disney. Is all that just to make the Happily Ever After that much better?
Orphans has been a fixture with not only Disney, but literature. Dickens wrote novel after novel about orphans, etc. A child that nobody wants strikes a chord with a lot of people, and provides great drama. After all, a story where everything is fine makes for extremely boring plot.
