and many many more, isn’t it about time we cut all the bad stuff out, I am glad disney is now Hannah Montanna, she is much more friendly and so modern for 21st century life.
Cinderella – Shows a woman cleaning and cooking, and falling in love with a man – Sexist and homophobic!
Bambi – Mother gets killed.
You’re casting your net kind of wide. A lot of these issues have totally separate sources. And not all are negative.
To answer your main question – about the racism and sexism, they simply reflected their times. Bad as our culture seems now, it has been significantly worse in the past. IMHO, Snow White is a better example of the sexism you are thinking of than Cinderella. In Cinderella housekeeping is depicted as drudgery that a woman should not aspire to. Yes, she was waiting to be rescued, and that is sexist, but not necessarily homophobic. (She didn’t spurn the affections of any girls, after all.)
For violence… Disney should not be blamed for refusing to sugar coat stories. While they do enough changing of the original tales, the REAL stories and folktales and fairy tales they are retelling are very violent. Life is violent. Part of the point of such stories is to introduce and deal with the negatives in life.
