Is it a terrible mistake to visit Walt Disney World in July?

I’ve been to WDW many times. This summer I will be with my parents (in their early 60′s and in good health) and my kids (13 and 8 years old). The first time I took my son (he was about 2 1/2 years) it was the middle of July. I have great memories, and only remember the heat being a little much. (I’m from Texas, though, so it’s not big deal.) We’ve planned a vacation for July 5-9, 2010, and I plan to take advantage of the extra magic hours as much as possible. I guess I’m just wondering if anyone has been to WDW in the middle of summer in the last few years and totally regretted it.

It can be very hot and the lines to tend to be longer in the summer since kids are out of school.

My suggestion is take advantage of the magic hours, the will be far cooler since they are either first thing in the morning or late at night. The lines will also be shorter since only those staying at Disney resorts can ride during magic hours. If it gets too hot maybe go back to the hotel and take a swim or do something that has a ton of buildings like downtown disney.

The only people I know who have regretted going that time of the year are people with really small kids just because they get fussy in the heat. Also they are not as quick to tell you when they are thirsty or not feeling well in the heat which can cause problems fast.

The heat is not too bad, but it can seem worse when you just are standing in line.
