Disney Marathon Information?

Has anyone ever ran in the Disney Marathon? We are planning a trip for January 2012 and I was just curious about the race itself. From what I have read there are no gift bags or anything for the runners, just a bib and a medal. Is the course marked well? Do you spend any real time in the parks or is it just a in and out deal? I have run several marathons in different places and gotten all kinds of swag and doorprizes (everything from meals to a NorthFace bookbag) I just expected Disney to give something as much as the event costs. Overall would anyone recommend this race or should I just plan a trip and skip the run?

I’ve run the 2010 Disney race and am running the upcoming 2011 Disney World Marathon.

Disney World Marathon is a great race. I ran it last year and it was one of my favorites. It is a big race so you get lots of support and people to run with and it is very flat. It starts early(at 5:50 A.M) so be prepared for that. The course is very well marked (or at least last year it was but I suspect it will be for 2011-2012 too). You spend a large amount of the time in the parks. I’d say most of it is in the parks and it is a very cool route In my opinion. The medal is pretty cool, and this year it looks even better then last year.

Orlando is also a great place to visit for the theme parks and all and of course it’s Florida so it’s usually great temperatures except for last year where it was sleeting at the start of the Half and the next day at the Full it was still bitterly cold. Still though, it is a great race and a great place to be and definitely not one to miss.
