Would I get in legal trouble if…?
Okay, I downloaded a copy of The Princess and the Fog on Limewire. Not exactly HD quality, but you can see what’s going on in the film.
I was going to make one of those fan videos about Tiana and Naveen, y’know, the kind where people tale clips from the movie and use with them with a relateable song.
I was talkin to my dad about it and he will NOT let me make this video. He thinks I’ll get in trouble for copyright issues. I tried telling him that in other videos, people have used many clips not released officially by Disney.
But, in their description, they give all rights to Disney and state that they own TPATF.
I’m trying to tell my dad I can do that and won’t get in trouble but he’s set in his ways.
Who’s right here, him or me?

Even if caught Disney would probably not prosecute a non-commercial use which names them as having rights, they would simply ask you to discontinue use.
… but your dad is right, it is not an ethical/legal use. Its a slippery slope, once you start redrawing the line.
