Anyone been to Disney World on their birthday this year? Did you get in free or get one of…?

I’m curious as to how the free birthday admission works. I have read the information on the Disney site, but I want to know from someone who has actually been. If you already have a ticket, what did you have to do to get one of the other gifts? Did you have to show your ticket again?
Here’s my reason for asking: We are going to be at Disney World this year on my husband’s birthday. We already have tickets with no expiration left over from our last trip, BUT he is also in the military and they can get a FREE 5 day ticket, so obviously we were planning to use that for him instead of using up our tickets. I want to know if we can still get one of the other gifts even though technically he is getting in free anyway.
Yes, as long as you have valid admission tickets already, you can get one of the other freebies (either a Birthday FastPass or a Birthday Giftcard, or a 1-day 1-park ticket to be used within the next year). Go up to Guest Relations at whichever park you intend to spend the day at, show them your Id with your birthday, and your admission ticket, and tell them what you want. What your other admission is is irrelevant.
