At first I read this quote and thought maybe Walt was really very fond of his creation, almost passionate about it.
My theory behind this is ol’ Walt loved money. It’s very interesting to me someone would love a cartoon creation more than a flesh and blood companion.
Well i thin wally there had some problems. maybe he had some serious problems with his mother.. like she used to lock him in the basement with the rats… which led to trust issues (especially toward women).. which led to a life of solitude.. which led to the creation of an imaginary friend… which was transfered to paper… which well all loveing call mickey!

or… mickey was voiced by walt himself… so maybe he was just really self centered!
