I don’t know squat about electric guitars. Do you absolutely need an amp for one?
I’m getting my daughter a Disney Washburn, and I wanted to know if it was absolutely necessary to have an amp with an electric guitar. Will you not be able to hear it if you don’t have one?
For Nick: I don’t think a FIVE year old will get laughed at for having a Disney Washburn. But okay.

The more important message to you is THIS GUITAR IS A TOY! I don’t know how old your daughter is, but by the time she is 12, she’ll be embarrassed to admit she owns this guitar….and you’ll have wasted the money. Buy this as an expensive toy, but if you actually want her to learn to play guitar, you’ll have to spend considerably more.
I think it’s wonderful that you are supporting your daughter in learning an instrument. I would recommend an acoustic guitar in the $125 – $150 range. No amplifier needed for an acoustic. Perhaps an Epiphone or Yamaha brand.
